We use Sender Signatures to verify ownership of emails. This helps us prevent spam and abuse. It also helps with delivery since you can control email authentication on your domain. Sometimes though, you want to send an email from a customer or member’s email address. There are some ways to work around this in our API.
If you must send from customer or member emails, we do have the ability to whitelist certain accounts who have displayed good sending practices. Contact us for more information.
Override Sender Signature Details
The API allows you to override certain fields in a sender signature, more specifically:
- Using a different From Name
- Using a different ReplyTo
- Using + signs in email addresses
With these override settings, you could still send from your own email address in the From field, but use a different name and ReplyTo. For instance:
Original Signature
- From name: Postmark
- From address: info@postmarkapp.com
- ReplyTo: info@postmarkapp.com
Sender Signature Override
- From name: John Smith
- From address: info+johnsmith@postmarkapp.com
- ReplyTo: john.smith@domain.com
This will present the customer’s information while using your domain, which we can verify and you can authenticate. Deliverability of your email is our top priority, so these measures help us maintain it.
